Zimbabwean Youtuber and musician, Tadiwa, who just so happens to have the same name as me, is a rising youth icon in my opinion, though he disagrees. He’s well known for his remake of the 2016 hit ‘Panda’ and his comedic Youtube skits. My admiration for Tadiwa, besides him being my namesake, lies in his care-free nature and he’s a very ‘live in the moment’ type of guy. I guess you could say he is the definite of youth, young, vibrant and as aforementioned, care-free.
You’re only known locally in Zimbabwe, to a foreigner how would you describe who you are and what you do?
Well actually to foreigners what I do is quite recognized, being a Youtuber has now grown into so much more especially in the US and UK. I've actually noticed it being the opposite, I actually have to explain to Zimbabweans what it is I do and foreigners automatically pick it up that I’m a Youtuber, its exciting though, being like one of the first Youtubers in Zimbabwe and taking it to new heights and inspiring young Zimbabweans.
I think it’s safe to say that as someone pretty young, you’ve made a name for yourself in Zimbabwe. Has music always been something you wanted to pursue?
I love Music, it’s like a Part of me, I definitely would love to pursue music, not as a career as such but on a semi- professional level, I won't be JUST an Artist but I will be an Artist. I Take time with my music though, I want to develop a unique Zimbabwean sound, I’m still working on that, releasing "Gonzo"* was just a way to show people that I have the ability to make great music and now I’m working on my own music.
In becoming an artist, did you begin with set goals, or did they emerge as your popularity grew?
I guess my popularity just grew – haha. I didn’t really work with targets or goals really, though I had a rough idea of what was coming. Now that my popularity is growing and so am I as an Artist, now I start setting goals and targets, taking it more seriously.
What would you say influenced you to do what you do, and why?
What influenced me is other Youtubers I used to watch as a kid, when I was 14, my brother used to watch YouTube videos of Superwoman, Travie Williams, Bugatti Beez, a lot of US Youtubers and he would show me, and from there on I was like ‘Hey, I love this stuff! Why don't I do this?’ And yeah that’s how it all began.
It’s no secret that you’re quite the comedian, but would you say in your work, you’ve been influenced by classic and modern artists?
I would say modern artists really, since mostly everything I put out there is for people around my age mainly, I wouldn't really be influenced by classic artists
Would you dub yourself a “youth icon”?
Well, that’s tricky, I wouldn't dub myself as a "youth icon" as of yet, I guess because I’m still a youth myself and I haven't yet reached where I would want to be, or inspired the youth to the fullest yet, but I guess in the near future, it’s something I would definitely love to be
Do you see yourself creating music and skits in the next five years?
I definitely do see myself doing it in the next 5 years, I always want to take my music and my comedic side to the next level. In the next 5 years I want to be at a stage where my music is well renowned to the level I’m happy with and collaborating with other awesome Youtubers not only in Zim but from Africa and the rest of the world.
I think you’ve created a foundation for youth to relax and have a laugh, what words of wisdom can you share in regards to how to live life and enjoy it to the max?
I honestly just believe that everyone has the right to do what they love, I think life is too short to be doing what you don't want to do, or something you're not fully in, I think that's how you can live your life to the max, when you feel like you're really doing what you want and not concerned about the haters haha
Are there any new songs or videos that we should be on the lookout for?
My first Single "On Me" has its music video coming out On October 28. So that's something to definitely look out for, and definitely more Crazy Pranks coming through, also possibly Celebrity Pranks coming towards the end of the year.
*Gonzo is a remake of Desiigner’s hit song Panda, in one of Zimbabwe’s official languages, Shona. ‘Gonzo’ translates in ‘Rat’, and in essence this local remake is about fake friends hence the title, ‘Gonzo/Rat’
